Obesity

ObesityWith the changing lifestyles, and a mere passage of time, the menace of obesity has strengthened its roots in the society like never before. Experts say that obesity is one of the leading causes of death today. High time indeed, are you obese?

A person is obese if his BMI (Body Mass Index) is over 30 or equivalent in pounds or KGs. If you are being classified under the ‘obesity tagline’, it is highly recommended that you seek medical consultation and necessary precautions at once. Adequate changes in living trends, e.g. proper diet (balanced, short and frequent meals), sleeping patterns, exercise etc would surely help the cause.

Why is obesity life-threatening? Simple- because it gives birth to other hazardous medical conditions. Diabetes,  strokes, hypertension, depression, cancers of colon etc. are all diseases which are often correlated with obesity. Other side bothers can include shortness of breath. Besides all, obesity can force one to abide by the social interactions. This is due to lack of self-confidence, and most often unfriendly, hostile approach by the society towards such people.

How is obesity caused? Well, there is no one definite way to this. However, one of the most prevailing factor is the ingestion of extremely high calorie levels. Junk food (pizzas, burgers etc.) including fizzy drinks all contribute to this. Balanced diet if often neglected.  Furthermore, severe lack of physical movement is another leading cause of the obesity now-a-days. Being a  “couch-potato” is often considered the most appropriate way of lifestyle. According to a survey in Pakistan, most children these days prefer watching TV, or playing on gaming consoles, rather than going out for physical games. In last, thyroid disorders is comparatively lesser, but still a high cause of obesity.

Is obesity treatable? Quite assuredly, yes. But then, precaution is better than the cure. There are quite a few medicinal pills available in the market which are medically recommended, but many of them are nothing more than a scam. These so called ‘medicines’ often gives rise to other medical disorders. To be on safer side, one should always get the medicines for obesity recommended by the doctor- and should avoid all those fake pills being advertised. As afore-mentioned, amendments in the lifestyle is a better solution. Shun the habit of over-eating. Exercise, but only light if you are heavily obese ( a condition, medically known as ‘morbid obesity. ) The exercising patterns should be suggested by the expert, as false approach could bring into dire consequences, including the chances of getting a stroke due to the unbearable pressure on the heart.

According to experts, at least one American in a group of three is being affected by the peril of obesity. Teenagers are considered to be the most prone age-group to obesity. There are groups involved in public awareness programs that encourages society to defeat obesity.  Hundreds of people are losing their lives with obesity. Thousands of people are destructing their social lives with obesity. Why wait? Stand up now. Make your lifestyle say ‘No’ to obesity.
